Mount Wonders
We are commissioned by God Almighty, to lead people to Christ and show them the salvation in Christ Jesus, setting mankind free from the oppression of Satan and healing them from their infirmity through the anointing of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 4:24). The Church has the vision to be the foremost Church of Christ and the Holy Spirit based Assembly that is FOCUSED on winning souls for the actualization of JESUS CHRIST’S commission and steadfastness of God’s KINGDOM.
The African Apostolic Church (Mount Wonders) Bariga was founded on 27th February, 1968 by Apostle Dr. Samuel Oluwatayo Omotunde and prominent Elders among whom is Chief James Adefemi Alademomi (the church Patron till date). The branch started at Olokodana Street, Bariga, Lagos and later moved to three houses before moving to this present church location. At the beginning, Samuel Omotunde had the gift of prophesy as the Holy Spirit heavily rested on him at a very young age. With this, he did not find it difficult to lead other youths at Olowogbowo on what we could refer to as the first ever youth forum in TAAC. He was also a Choirmaster and composer at Olowogbowo. Under his leadership, the youth at Olowogbowo separated themselves every week for prayers at the bar-beach and God spoke to them regularly.
One of the prophecies of God to them was that God has given the control of TAAC to them. This looked impossible but it was fulfilled. The youths by then included Apostle S. O. Omotunde, Revd. Dr. J. Ojo, Revd. Dr. Olaleye, Chief J. A. Alademomi and host of others. There were many developmental programmes and projects that were put forward then, which the leadership did not approve and did not materialize. Later, due to accommodation problem, Samuel Omotunde later moved to Ebute-Metta for better accommodation and because of distance, he joined another Parish of TAAC at Ebutte-Metta.
It was at Ebutte-Metta that he saw a vision that a white man stood outside beckoning at him to come out. He later obeyed and in conjunction with some Olowogbowo prayer group members, he moved to 10 Olokodana street, Abule-Okuta, Bariga to start another Parish of TAAC in 1968. The Lord later told Samuel Omotunde that he should become full time minister, though he appealed to God that He should allow him use his money to aid the works of God as he was then gainfully employed by CFAO and lacked no material resources. Disappointed by the attitude of the Pastor that oversaw Olokodana, Bariga Parish, bro. Samuel Oluwatayo Omotunde took over the pastoral duties of the church, later moved to a shop at Shogbamu Street before they finally got to 13, Shogbamu Street, Bariga, where the church is still currently located. God used the founder to purchase this present land in the name of the church. The first Sunday service was held on 7th March, 1968. The church presently has fourteen Parishes established for TAAC as affiliated Churches today.
Many vigils, prayer programmes with lots of prophecies, revelations and promises characterized the humble Christ-reliant beginning of Mount Wonders, Bariga. The branch started with fifteen members. The members were Apostle Dr. Samuel Omotunde, Revd. Mother Flourence Omotunde, Revd. Dr. Joshua Alademomi, Revd. Soji Adegoye, Elder Joseph Bankole, Mrs. Dorcas Bankole, Mrs. Emily Bankole, Mrs. Comfort Oluremi Ebenezer and Deacon Michael Famiwo, Elder Chief J. A. Alademomi, who have all gone to be with the Lord. Other founding members still alive are Revd. Dr. Timothy Ibigbami, Pastor (Mrs.) Grace Alademomi and Evangelist Mrs. Alice Ajulo.
The land where the Church is currently located fell on government acquisition and was demolished during the reign of Mobolaji Johnson as Governor of Lagos State. The Lord told our fathers that He would build His church with lots of promises and He did. Before the block building started, palm fronds were used as shed for years. Still, the Lord promised to build His church and reward handsomely all that participated. The old Church building started in phases: the foundation was laid on 20th January, 1970 by Revd. A . A. Fakunle, Primate J.A. Odaliki and Revd. S. A. Olabosinde. The building was eventually completed in a miraculous way. More members joined the church and the work of God continued to grow.Transformative Sermons for Spiritual Growth.
